THE BEACH HOUSE

Next morning. A perfectly clear day.

Scene 02

Next day. View from inside the beach house—stylish white marble floors, the sun shining through every room. All the doors and windows are open. A perfectly clear day outside.

A view from behind a drone flying through a corridor. The scene follows the drone from another corridor. Stephanie appears carrying equipment and crosses paths with the drone. She looks up at it and rolls her eyes.

Stephanie
(smiles and shouts)
I hope you're going to help me with my cases, dude!

Hayden is outside by the pool holding a drone controller. He ignores her. The drone flies out the front sliding doors towards the pool, then up above the house. A view of the roof, the drone flying towards the front entrance gate.

The scene merges into the viewpoint of the drone. As it gets closer, you see an old beaten-up pickup truck slowly entering the front drive. The pickup stops. A local driver gets out.

Gerard walks out of the front door towards the pickup. In the distance, the drone flies upwards and out of sight.

Gerard
Hey! How's it going? I'm Gerard. We have everything inside. It's quite a bit, but I think we can all squeeze in!

The driver—a local guy, tanned and easygoing—walks towards Gerard, gives him a fist bump and stares up at the house, nodding in approval.

Driver
Heard you guys are going down the Mariana Trench, man! That trench makes me laugh, yo! The locals here have some wacky conspiracy theories. You guys making a documentary about it?
Gerard
(confused)
We are just explorers, and a marine biologist—filming sea creatures, parasites, translucent particles, pressure control with deep-sea life. But let's hope there is a pot of gold down there and no aliens, eh! Then I can retire on this beautiful island.
Driver
Lovely jubbly chaps—off you go, seven miles down to the bottom of the ocean to find the door to hell.

He speaks in an English accent, joking, as they walk towards the front door.

Inside the house, a pile of equipment sits on the white marble floor in the centre of the room. Stephanie is adding more to the pile. Further in the background, Hayden is by the pool, walking inside towards the pile, recording on his phone.

Stephanie walks off to get more equipment while Hayden, the driver, and Gerard arrive around the equipment. Gerard looks at Hayden with disappointment, shaking his head.

Gerard
(sarcastically)
You must be making TikToks for your little fans?
Hayden
(sarcastically)
Oh yeah? Can I get your Snap?

Hayden looks at the driver.

Hayden
They just be watching the Discovery Channel, these dudes.
Driver
(singing)
Do it like they do on the Discovery Channel…

Hayden gives him a strange look. The driver catches himself, shakes his head, and gives a wide-eyed goofy look back at Hayden.

Gerard
(looks at the driver)
Hayden has just one talent and that's using a remote control. He's navigating the cameras down the Mariana Trench following Laurence in the sub.

Stephanie arrives with another box and places it down, giving an evil look to Hayden.

Gerard
This is Stephanie. She is the oceanographer and knows everything there is to know about the deep sea.

The conversation continues—Stephanie telling Hayden to help her. The camera leaves the group and cuts to Laurence and Sam on an open balcony, looking out towards the ocean.

Laurence
This island is so beautiful, Sam. Probably the most beautiful one I've ever been to. I'll come back in the future, just to enjoy the beaches and the food, you know?
Sam
I've been on this island before, Laurence. Many years ago, when I was in my early thirties. Part of the navy.

Back then there were no luxury houses. There was barely anything. The island had a history.

Sam
The indigenous people of Guam were subjected to forced labour, execution, concentration camps and forced prostitution by the Japanese. After several weeks of heavy fighting, Japanese forces surrendered. It was a tough time for them in the fifties. This island was then converted into a forward operations base for the U.S. Navy and Air Force.
Sam
In the eighties, I participated in a mission here with the navy. Part of a training exercise. It was the last mission I ever did for them. I never thought I'd make it back here.
Laurence
What was the mission?
Sam
(jokingly)
Can't tell you. Top secret.

Laurence looks confused—as if to say, "still top secret?" In the background, Gerard is shouting to everyone that they will be leaving soon.
